In this photo by Mukhtar Khan, a vendor sells kangris, or fire pots, on a cold morning in Srinagar, the main city in India's portion of Kashmir. A kangri is an age-old device for keeping warm, consisting of a decoratively woven wicker case housing an earthen pot in which charcoal is burned. Many families make their living making and selling kangris, which cost from $3 to $32 each, depending on quality. Kashmiris usually buy a new one each year, and visitors also buy them as souvenirs, along with the samovar, a traditional Kashmiri tea pot.
